# Credits and licences

Everything the site ships is listed here with its source and licence.

## Scenery

The rainforest backdrop was generated for the studio with **Nano Banana Pro**
(Google's Gemini image model) through fal.ai on 2026-09-03, using the
prompt recorded as job `bg-nbp-b` in `tools/generate-images.mjs`. The
original 2752 x 1536 PNG is kept at `source/rainforest-nano-banana-pro.png`.
`tools/build-assets.mjs` applies a very light grade (brightness 0.95,
saturation 1.03), crops a 9:16 version for portrait phones, and encodes
AVIF / WebP / JPEG at several widths.

Generated output is owned by Poison Arrow Frog Studios LLC under fal.ai's
and Google's terms for generated content; no third-party photograph is used.

## Leaves

The monstera, palm frond and fern are product-style renders generated with
**FLUX.2 [pro]** through fal.ai (jobs `leaf-*` in
`tools/generate-images.mjs`), then cut out with **BiRefNet v2** background
removal, also on fal.ai. The perch the mascot sits on is a painted
banana leaf generated with **Nano Banana Pro** (job `perch-paint-d`): soft
brushwork, natural greens, no outline, chosen to sit between the
photographic jungle and the cartoon frog after a photograph read as too
real beside the mascot and a cel-shaded version read as too cartoonish. The cutouts with alpha live in
`source/leaf-*-cutout.png`; the build trims them and writes WebP variants,
including a darkened "shade" version for the nearest layer. One remaining
silhouette (a low fern in the ground mist) is drawn procedurally by
`tools/build-foliage.mjs`. The photographic banana leaf used earlier is kept
at `source/leaf-banana-cutout.png` in case it is wanted again.

## Mascot

The cartoon poison arrow frog is Poison Arrow Frog Studios' own artwork
(`source/frog-mascot.png`), generated in-house as a studio icon concept and
adopted as the mascot. All rights reserved by Poison Arrow Frog Studios LLC.

## Typeface

**Fraunces** by Undercase Type (Phaedra Charles and Flavia Zimbardi).
Licensed under the **SIL Open Font License 1.1**. The two files in
`assets/fonts/` are the Latin subsets served by Google Fonts (variable
weight 300 to 700 with the optical-size axis), self-hosted here so the page
makes no third-party requests. Licence text: https://openfontlicense.org/

The Canovaccio wordmark is set the way the Canovaccio app sets it: Fraunces
at weight 600 with the text optical size (`opsz` 36), upright, with a ™.

## Ambient sound

`assets/rainforest-ambience.mp3` (60 s, 96 kbps, 44.1 kHz stereo, 704 KB)
is a mix of two **CC0** field recordings from Freesound, prepared for the
studio's earlier site build and copied here unchanged. Source pages and
licences were checked on 2026-09-03; both allow commercial use and
adaptation without attribution, which is kept here for provenance.

1. **"Selva Amazonas Insectos y Aves 12m"** by **missteik**, 2014-12-26.
Tropical birds, cicadas and palms recorded in Alto Orinoco, Amazonas,
   Venezuela. https://freesound.org/people/missteik/sounds/259510/
   Licence: CC0 1.0 Universal, https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/
2. **"Rain_ForestAmbience_Birdsongs"** by **Brikaro**, 2026-05-24. Rain on a
   forest trail with birds. https://freesound.org/people/Brikaro/sounds/855676/
   Licence: CC0 1.0 Universal, https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/

Edits (made in the earlier build): 64-second excerpts starting at 22 s and
7 s respectively, mixed at gains 0.48 and 0.32, limited to 0.85, joined
with a four-second crossfade into a 60-second loop. These are authentic
field recordings used for atmosphere, not a claim to have been recorded in
Costa Rica.

Playback (`audio.js`): the file is fetched on page load, decoded once with
Web Audio, and its last two seconds are blended into its first with an
equal-power crossfade so the loop point is inaudible. It plays at 36%
volume, fades in over 2.5 s and out over 1.1 s, and suspends while the tab
is hidden.

## Poison dart frog call

`assets/poison-dart-frog-call.mp3` is a 1.2-second excerpt of **"Oophaga
pumilio call"** by **Captainstork**, recorded on 2008-08-15 at Isla Bastimentos,
Bocas del Toro, Panama. The source identifies it as a male strawberry poison
dart frog call. Source and license checked on 2026-10-17:

- Recording: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Oophaga_pumilio_call.ogg
- License: **Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported (CC BY 3.0)**,
  https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
- Original: `source/oophaga-pumilio-call.ogg`.
- Changes: excerpt from 5.0–6.2 seconds, gain +6 dB, 20 ms fade-in and 40 ms
fade-out, encoded as 44.1 kHz mono MP3 at 96 kbps. No pitch or speed change.

The recording is free to reuse, including commercially, under that attribution
license. The animated mascot is stylized and is not a species-identification
illustration. The call plays only with sound enabled during its throat puff.

## Fireflies and rain

Drawn at runtime on a canvas by `particles.js`; no image assets.

## Fly buzz

`assets/fly-buzz.mp3` is an excerpt of **"single fly.wav"** by **memuse**,
recorded with a Zoom H4n near a glass window in a quiet room, published
2015-06-11. Source and license checked on 2026-10-17:

- Source: https://freesound.org/people/memuse/sounds/276068/
- License: **CC0 1.0 Universal**, https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/
- Public preview retained as `source/single-fly-memuse.mp3`:
  https://cdn.freesound.org/previews/276/276068_1028547-lq.mp3
- Edits: excerpt 6.0–10.5 seconds; 180 Hz high-pass filter; gain +42 dB;
30 ms fade-in; mixed to mono and encoded as 44.1 kHz MP3 at 96 kbps.
No pitch or speed change. Runtime gain is 14%, with left-to-right stereo
panning and an abrupt cutoff at the catch.

CC0 permits commercial use and modification without attribution; this entry
is retained for provenance and does not need a public popup credit.

## Icons

The sound toggle icon is hand-drawn inline SVG in `index.html`. The favicon
and app icons are the mascot composited on a green tile by
`tools/build-assets.mjs`.
